Day #1:


Today in class we began our mini-writing unit on The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore
  • We watched the video of the story without sound.... look for elements of fiction.
  • Then, we watched the video of the story with sound... add to notes about elements of fiction.
  • Begin to organize/write a story that could go along with this video.
  • Rough Draft of the story due tomorrow, Friday, 12/14/12.


Day#2:

Continue working on rough draft of the story that goes along with the short film, The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore.


Day #3:

Come to class and enter/type your story into Criterion https://criterion1.ets.org/cwe/.

Criterion Directions

1. Log into a computer and go to our webpage through
the Derby website.

2. Click on the Criterion Link---Log in using your user name/password--- go to student site

3. Choose Assignment "The Fantastic Flying Books of
Mr. Morris Lessmore"..continue... no plan

4.Begin typing your story.... skip a line to note a new
paragraph.....

5. When you are done typing, click SUBMIT.

6. Review the errors/comments.


You will have 3opportunities to submit your story into Criterion and get help with editing/revising. While making these edits/revisions, you will keep track of the type of errors that Criterion finds.



Day #4

Read outloud the actual story of The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore.
  • Think about the first time you watched the short film, The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore. Reread your notes from your first two viewings. Compare those notes to your short story, and to the picture book. How are these alike and different? Explain what you notice.
  • Why do you think the author named the main character, Mr. Morris Lessmore?
  • Does the short film or the book remind you of any other stories or films you have seen? Did you make any text-to-self, text-to-text or text-to-world connections? If so, explain.
  • What do you think is the theme of this short film and picture book? Explain.
